Arrest of Dustin Mark Duren (age 37) for the Second Degree Murder of Caitlyn Naffziger in Berlin, New Hampshire

Concord, NH - Attorney General John M. Formella, New Hampshire State Police Colonel Mark B. Hall, and Berlin Police Chief Daniel Buteau announce the arrest of Dustin Mark Duren (age 37) in connection with the death of Caitlyn Naffziger (age 31) at 1063 Main Street in Berlin, New Hampshire, on February 29, 2024.

On Thursday, February 29, 2024, at approximately 10:30 PM, the New Hampshire State Police and the Berlin Police Department responded to an apartment located at 1063 Main Street in Berlin. Upon entering the location, officers discovered the body of Caitlyn Naffziger. An autopsy was conducted this afternoon by Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mitchell Weinberg, who determined that the cause of Ms. Naffziger’s death was a single gunshot wound to the head, and the manner of her death was homicide.

Early Friday morning, March 1, 2024, an Amber Alert was issued for Mr. Duren and for the two children, ages 4 and 1, who were believed to be travelling with him. Around 11:00 A.M., citizens saw Mr. Duren’s vehicle outside a restaurant on Key Road in Keene, New Hampshire and called police. All three individuals were found safely. This afternoon, Mr. Duren was arrested on a charge of Second Degree Murder for knowingly causing Ms. Naffziger’s death by shooting her. Mr. Duren is scheduled to be arraigned in 1st Circuit Court - District Division in Berlin on Monday, March 4, 2024.

The New Hampshire Department of Justice, New Hampshire State Police, and the Berlin Police Department extend their thanks to the efforts of the Keene Police Department for assisting in responding to the report of Mr. Duren’s vehicle and his children to ensure their safety today. We also thank the citizens who responded to the Amber Alert and were alert throughout the State to safely find and locate both children.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available while protecting the integrity of the investigation.

The charge filed is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
