Disclosure of the Name of the of the Trooper Involved in the Shooting Incident at the New Hampshire Hospital in Concord, New Hampshire

Concord, NH – Attorney General John M. Formella announces the identity of the officer involved in the shooting incident on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the New Hampshire Hospital in Concord, New Hampshire that resulted in the death of John Madore, age 33.

The New Hampshire State Trooper who discharged his weapon was Trooper Nathan Sleight, who has approximately 11 years of law enforcement experience.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, including the shooting and killing of Bradley Haas, a New Hampshire Hospital security officer, by Madore.  While the Office will follow its normal protocol for officer involved uses of deadly force and conduct a complete investigation, the evidence gathered and reviewed to date indicates that Trooper Sleight’s actions were legally justified under New Hampshire RSA 627:5, and very likely prevented further injuries or loss of life.

It is anticipated that the final report regarding the incident and Trooper Sleight’s use of deadly force will be released once the investigation is completed. No further updates are expected until the report is released.
