Former Attorney David C. Dunn Sentenced to State Prison for Stealing Client Funds

Concord, NH – Attorney General John M. Formella announces that former attorney David C. Dunn, age 64, of Durham, pleaded guilty and has been sentenced in the Hillsborough County-Northern District Superior Court on four class A felony counts of theft by misapplication of property.

Investigation revealed that between March 16, 2016, and June 9, 2021, while working as a licensed attorney in Manchester, Mr. Dunn unlawfully obtained $359,711.17 from multiple client financial accounts. Mr. Dunn used these funds to, among other things, support his law practice, including to pay his salary. Mr. Dunn, who practiced in Manchester, was disbarred in 2022.

The Court sentenced Mr. Dunn on each conviction to serve 5-10 years in the New Hampshire State Prison, stand committed. The Court suspended 4 years of the minimum term for 10 years. Under the suspended sentence, Mr. Dunn may not practice law and is prohibited from serving as a fiduciary for any person or entity. The sentences are to be served concurrently. Prior to sentencing, Mr. Dunn paid restitution in full.

This matter was investigated by Investigator Calice Couchman-Ducey of the Elder Abuse and Financial Exploitation Unit with assistance from the New Hampshire Attorney Discipline Office. The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant Attorney General Bryan J. Townsend, II, of the Elder Abuse and Financial Exploitation Unit.
