Concord, NH – New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella, New Hampshire State Police Colonel Nathan Noyes and Hinsdale Police Chief Charles D. Rataj announce additional information regarding the two deaths that occurred in Hinsdale, New Hampshire.

On August 4, 2021, at approximately 12:53 p.m., Hinsdale police officers responded to a call from 767 Plain Road for a reported shooting.  Upon arrival, they discovered two people deceased in the home: David Lent (age 47) and his son, Tyler Gilbert (age 12).  The responding officers observed that Mr. Lent and his son had suffered apparent gunshot wounds.  A pistol was located next to Mr. Lent.  A witness at the scene reported that David Lent shot Tyler before shooting himself.

At the time of the incident, Mr. Lent was a resident at the 767 Plain Road home.  Tyler Gilbert was a resident of Vermont and was visiting his father, Mr. Lent, and his grandparents in Hinsdale on August 4, 2021.  

Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mitchell Weinberg conducted an autopsy on Mr. Lent and Tyler Gilbert today.  Dr. Weinberg determined that Mr. Lent's cause of death was a single gunshot wound and his manner of death is suicide.  Tyler Gilbert's cause of death was gunshot wounds and his manner of death is homicide.

Although the investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident remains active and ongoing, based on the physical evidence and witness interviews it has been determined that Mr. Lent shot and killed his son, Tyler Gilbert, and then shot and killed himself.  No additional information is expected to be released at this time.
