State v. David Morancy

Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald, Lieutenant Brandon Drysdale of the Strafford County Drug Task Force, and Dover Police Chief William Breault jointly announce that David Morancy, 59, of Dover pleaded guilty yesterday in Strafford County Superior Court to 4 counts of possession of a controlled drug with the intent to sell. Specifically, Mr. Morancy pleaded guilty to 2 counts of possession of cocaine with the intent to sell, 1 count of possession of crack cocaine with the intent to sell, and 1 count of possession of carfentanil with the intent to sell.

Mr. Morancy was sentenced to 1-3 years in the New Hampshire State Prison for possession of over 20 grams of the controlled drug carfentanil with the intent to sell. In addition, on his convictions for possession with intent to sell cocaine and crack cocaine, Mr. Morancy received consecutive sentences of 1-3 years of deferred prison time and 2-6 years of suspended prison time.

On October 11, 2017, members of the Strafford County Drug Task Force and the Dover Police Department surveilled Mr. Morancy as he appeared to meet with another individual in a Dover parking lot for a drug transaction. Law enforcement subsequently stopped Mr. Morancy and found cocaine and crack cocaine on his person in addition to $2,615 in cash. A search warrant was executed on Mr. Morancy’s apartment in Dover, also on October 11, 2017, where law enforcement found carfentanil and cocaine, along with instrumentalities of drug distribution and additional United States currency.

This successful investigation and prosecution was the result of the joint efforts of the Strafford County Drug Task Force and the Dover Police Department with the assistance of the New Hampshire Department of Justice’s Drug Prosecution Unit.
