Homicide investigation in Stoddard, New Hampshire

New Hampshire Attorney General Joseph A. Foster and State Colonel Christopher J. Wagner announce that the autopsy has been completed on the deceased male killed in Stoddard, New Hampshire last week.

At about 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2017, New Hampshire State Police Troopers responded to a 911 call at a private residence in Stoddard. When the Troopers arrived, they discovered Michael Carney (age 44) of Sullivan, New Hampshire, deceased in the home. There were also two other people in the home; an adult female and a young child, both of whom were uninjured.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has performed an autopsy on Mr. Carney and determined that his cause of death was two gunshot wounds. The manner of death is homicide.

The investigation is still ongoing and includes whether the person who shot Mr. Carney acted in self-defense.
