Disclosure of the Name of the New Hampshire State Trooper Involved in Shooting Incident

Concord, NH – Attorney General John M. Formella announces the identity of the New Hampshire State Trooper and officer from the Walpole Police Department involved in the shooting incident on Saturday, December 4, 2021, in Walpole, New Hampshire that resulted in the non-fatal shooting of Jacob Gasbarro, age 25.

The trooper who discharged his weapon was Trooper Zachary Bernier, who has approximately 4 years of law enforcement experience. Officer Dean Wright of the Walpole Police Department, who has approximately 20 years of law enforcement experience, was also present at the time of the shooting but did not discharge his weapon.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain actively under investigation. It is anticipated that a preliminary report regarding whether Trooper Bernier’s use of deadly force was justified will be released once the investigation is completed. No further updates are expected until the report is released.
