Attorney General Issues Guidance Regarding Online Giving

Concord, NH -- Attorney General John M. Formella announces the release of guidance for donors who may consider making online gifts this holiday season.

The Online Giving Donor & Consumer Guide Portable Document Format Symbol recognizes that the public has come to rely upon the convenience and speed of making charitable donations online.  But that convenience and speed could lead donors to make unwise choices or to get fooled by scammers who take advantage of the public.  The Guide recommends that donors first research any online appeal for funds.  Will the gift go to the intended charity, and how long will it take to get there?  What fees may be applied for the convenience of online giving?  Will the charity receive the donor's contact information?  The Guide answers these and other timely questions.

Any New Hampshire resident who is concerned about a particular charitable organization or online giving opportunity may contact the Charitable Trusts Unit of the Attorney General's Office at 603-271-3591 or charitabletrusts2@doj.nh.gov.
