Arrest in Concord Homicide

Concord, NH -- Attorney General John M. Formella and Concord Police Chief Bradley Osgood announce that an arrest has been made in connection with the suspicious death investigation in Concord, New Hampshire.

Today, at approximately 1:45 p.m., officers from the Concord Police Department responded to 71 S. Spring Street for a reported homicide at the residence.  The deceased resident has been identified as Marlene Couture, age 78.  It is anticipated that an autopsy will be conducted on Ms. Couture on Saturday, May 29, 2021. 

Philip Couture, age 77, of Concord, New Hampshire has been arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder for knowingly causing the death of Ms. Couture by assaulting her, and one count of second-degree murder for recklessly causing the death of Ms. Couture under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to the value of human life, by assaulting her.  Philip and Marlene Couture were married and lived at the residence at 71 S. Spring Street.  In addition, Mr. Couture has been charged with one count of second-degree assault for strangling an adult female at the residence.  This individual has been treated for her injuries and released.

It is anticipated that Mr. Couture's arraignment will be conducted on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Merrimack County Superior Court in Concord. 

The charges and allegations contained therein are merely accusations, and Mr. Couture is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
