Richard Sargent Arrested on Acts Prohibited – Death Resulting and Acts Prohibited – Selling or Dispensing a Controlled Drug

Concord, NH – Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald and Meredith Police Chief Kevin Morrow announce that Richard Sargent, age 44, of Tilton, New Hampshire has been arrested on charges of causing the death of Jennifer Engelhardt on May 25, 2016, by dispensing or selling her the controlled drug fentanyl, which she then injected, inhaled, or ingested, resulting in her death.

Sargent was arrested for acts prohibited, death resulting, contrary to RSA 318-B:26, IX. The potential sentence for this charge carries a possible maximum term of imprisonment of life in the state prison with the possibility of parole. Sargent was also arrested for selling a controlled drug, contrary to RSA 318-B:2. The maximum sentence for this charge is up to 7 years in the state prison, and a $100,000 fine.

The charges and allegations are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
