Nashua Officer-Involved Shooting on Friday, September 20, 2019, Identity of Individuals Involved

Concord, NH – Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald and New Hampshire State Police Colonel Christopher J. Wagner announce the identity of the individuals involved in the officer-involved shooting incident in Nashua, New Hampshire on September 20, 2019.

Nashua Police Department officers responded to 21 Hunt Street in Nashua at approximately 10:27 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2019, regarding a complaint that Mr. William Case (age 59) had threatened one of his neighbors with a long gun, either a rifle or a shotgun, earlier in the evening. Mr. Case was subsequently wounded after Nashua Police Officer John Colangelo, fired his weapon at Mr. Case, hitting Mr. Case in the upper torso. In addition, Nashua Police Officer Mathew Foss fired a beanbag round that hit Mr. Case in the torso. Officer Colangelo has been a police officer ten years. Officer Foss has been a police officer four years.

Mr. Case was later taken into custody and transported to a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries from the gunshot wound. Mr. Case currently remains hospitalized for issues unrelated to the physical injuries sustained in the September 19, 2019 incident.

A warrant has been issued for Mr. Case's arrest alleging that he threatened an individual with a deadly weapon on September 19, 2019, in Nashua.

The exact circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation. A report regarding whether the officers' use of force was justified will be released once the investigation is completed. No further updates are expected until the report is released.
