Governor Christopher T. Sununu and Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald announce that Attorney Daniel E. Will was sworn in today as New Hampshire's first Solicitor General.

Earlier this year, Governor Sununu signed into law Senate Bill 390 which created the position of Solicitor General within the Attorney General's Office. As Solicitor General, Attorney Will will lead and coordinate the Office's appellate advocacy, a function that is now dispersed throughout the Office. The Solicitor General will further enhance the Office's already strong appellate practice by leading a consolidated team, thereby achieving efficiencies, and providing a singular focus on the development of the law at the United States and New Hampshire Supreme Courts. The vast majority of Attorney General Offices have Solicitors General.

Solicitor General Will received his law degree from the Boston College Law School, summa cum laude in 1995, and his undergraduate degree from University of Pennsylvania, cum laude in 1989. He served as Editor-in-Chief for the Boston College Law Review, and is a member of the Order of the Coif, an academic honor based on exemplary achievement. He served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Morton A. Brody of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine, and to the Honorable Norman H. Stahl of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

Solicitor General Will is one of New Hampshire's most distinguished practitioners. He joined Devine Millimet & Branch of Manchester in1997, and became a shareholder in 2003. He has an exemplary record of service to the community and to the Bar.

"I am incredibly pleased to welcome Dan Will as New Hampshire's first Solicitor General," said Governor Sununu. "Dan comes highly recommended based on his decades of experience as one of New Hampshire's most impressive litigators. I am confident that Dan will set a high bar for this new position and make New Hampshire proud."

"This is an historic day for the New Hampshire Department of Justice," Attorney General MacDonald said. "The creation of the position of Solicitor General is an important part of our ongoing efforts to modernize and improve the delivery of our vital functions of seeking justice, protecting the public and effectively and efficiently representing the interests of the State. I thank Governor Sununu for his strong support of these efforts."

"Dan Will is exceptionally well qualified to take on this new role. I know he will excel in all facets of this position, and we are very excited to have him join us," MacDonald said.
