Updated Information Regarding Officer-Involved Shooting in Nashua

Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald and New Hampshire State Police Colonel Christopher J. Wagner announce further information concerning an officer-involved shooting incident that took place in Nashua, New Hampshire on June 26, 2018. At about 10:00 p.m. on June 26, officers from the Nashua Police Department responded to a residence at 106 Ledge Street for a welfare check. There, an incident occurred in which a Nashua police officer discharged his firearm and shot and wounded Justin Contreras (age 29), of Nashua, New Hampshire. Two other Nashua police officers were present during the incident. Mr. Contreras currently is hospitalized. No other people were physically injured during the incident.

This incident is being investigated by the Attorney General's Office in conjunction with the State Police Major Crime Unit. Additional details regarding the incident that led to the shooting will be provided as soon as possible while still protecting the integrity of the investigation. Pursuant to protocol, the names of the officers involved in the incident are being withheld pending the conclusion of the formal interviews of all three, which is expected to occur at the end of the week.

The exact circumstances surrounding this incident remain actively under investigation.
