Arrest of Spencer Grayson for Dispensing a Controlled Drug Which Caused the Death of Ryan Smith and Several Subsequent Sales of Controlled Drugs in Concord

New Hampshire Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald and Concord Police Chief Bradley Osgood announce the arrest and arraignment of Spencer Grayson, age 21, of Concord, for dispensing a drug which caused the death of Ryan Smith of Concord. Grayson was charged with dispensing a quantity of a controlled drug and three counts of sale of controlled drug.

Ryan Smith, age 30, died at Concord Hospital after ingesting a fatal amount of the controlled drugs fentanyl and methamphetamine on July 25-26, 2017, behind the Cumberland Farms located at 196 North Main Street in Concord. Members of the Concord Police Department have been actively investigating the circumstances of Smith's death, and Grayson's subsequent sales of a controlled drug to an undercover Concord Police detective. A warrant was issued for Grayson's arrest. On November 10, 2017, Northfield Police officers responded to an emergency call and they encountered Grayson at the scene. A Northfield officer recognized Grayson, confirmed the Concord Police Department warrants were active, and took Grayson into custody.

Grayson was arraigned this afternoon in Merrimack County Superior Court. He waived his arraignment on all five felony complaints: two complaints concerning Ryan Smith's death and three complaints regarding Grayson's sales to the undercover officer. Grayson's bail was set at $100,000 cash with various conditions.

The charges and allegations are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The police are asking the public for any information pertaining to the investigation. Please contact Lt. Sean Ford at 603-225-8600 or the Concord Regional Crimeline 226-3100.
