Attorney General's Press Briefing on September 22, 2017, Regarding Launch of the uSafeUS Smartphone App

Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald will lead a press briefing tomorrow to highlight the national launch of an innovative smartphone app developed in New Hampshire which is designed to place sexual assault resources in the hands of victims and their allies. The briefing will take place on September 22, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in Holloway Commons, the Bellamy Room, on the University of New Hampshire Durham Campus.

As a result of a collaborative effort between the University of New Hampshire and the Attorney General's Office, the uSafeNH smartphone app was deployed at 21 New Hampshire higher education campuses in 2016. With the assistance of University of New Hampshire students and faculty, the app was further developed and has been relaunched as uSafeUS. This app is launching nationally this week.

Based on a decade of research conducted by the Prevention Innovations Research Center at the University of New Hampshire, uSafeUS is unique among sexual assault safety apps in that it provides interactive features to prevent assaults, as well as a wealth of information to help victims and their allies. As colleges and universities are back in session, this is an optimal time for students, families and faculty to download and become familiar with the uSafeUS app so that all students on New Hampshire college and university campuses can have the necessary tools and information to combat and address sexual assault.

Also participating in the briefing will be: Dr. Sharyn Potter, Executive Director of Research, Prevention Innovations Research Center and University of New Hampshire Professor of Sociology and Rebecca Ludecke, Communications Coordinator and uSafeUS Project Manager.
