Officer involved shooting incident in Newton, New Hampshire

Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald and New Hampshire State Police Colonel Christopher J. Wagner announce that on June 15, 2017, there was an officer-involved shooting incident in Newton, New Hampshire.  This incident is being investigated by the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office in conjunction with the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit.

Early reports indicate that at approximately 11:10 p.m. on June 15, 2017, a pursuit began in Massachusetts of an adult male wanted out of Maine.  Massachusetts State Troopers pursued the suspect into New Hampshire.  The pursuit ended at approximately 11:51 p.m. at the intersection of Bear Hill Road and Amesbury Road in Newton, New Hampshire, when the suspect's vehicle hit a tree.  The suspect was subsequently shot and killed during a brief confrontation between the suspect and several Massachusetts State Troopers.  He was the sole occupant of the vehicle. 

An autopsy will be scheduled in order to determine the suspect's exact cause of death. His name is being withheld at this time pending notification of his family and/or next of kin. Likewise, per investigative protocol, the names of the officers involved in this shooting incident are being withheld at this time.

This is an unfolding investigation and additional information will be provided as soon as possible while still protecting the integrity of the investigation.
