At approximately 8:02 AM this morning, a 911 call was made to the Derry Police Department reporting that the caller's husband had just driven away from their home near Pinyon Lane. The female caller reported that her husband was distraught, armed with a shotgun, and suicidal. As Derry Police officers responded to the area, an officer encountered the husband's truck parked in the intersection of Scobie Pond Road and Julien Road. The man suffered a single gunshot wound and was transported to Parkland Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The police officer did not sustain any significant injury.

The investigation remains ongoing. Identification of the man is being withheld pending notification of his family members.
