Autopsy Results in Murder-Suicide in Dover, NH

Attorney General Joseph A. Foster and Dover Police Chief Anthony F. Colarusso, Jr., announce that autopsies have been completed on the deceased adult female and adult male discovered inside the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital critical care unit on December 30, 2014.

The two individuals have been identified as Katherine Lavoie (49) and Mark Lavoie (50) of Dover, New Hampshire. New Hampshire Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jennie Duval has determined that the cause of Katherine Lavoie's death was a single gunshot wound to the head, and the manner of her death was homicide. Dr. Duval also determined that the cause of Mark Lavoie's death was a single gunshot wound to the head, and his manner of death was suicide.

Based on the investigation to date, it is believed that Mark Lavoie shot and killed his wife, Katherine Lavoie, after which he committed suicide.

The investigation is ongoing.
