Attorney General Michael A. Delaney announces that the New Hampshire Board of Medicine ("Board") has suspended the medical license of Joseph Savage, M.D. effective September 21, 2012. Dr. Savage practiced in Manchester, New Hampshire.
The Board's action is in response to information that Dr. Savage appeared for work while intoxicated. Due to his actions and appearance, Catholic Medical Center ("CMC") prevented Dr. Savage from seeing patients and ordered an immediate fitness to practice evaluation. Dr. Savage underwent a blood alcohol screen which revealed a blood alcohol level of .186.
On September 21, 2012, the Board issued an Order of Emergency Suspension and Notice of Hearing. The order suspended Dr. Savage's license immediately. A Board hearing is currently scheduled for October 3, 2012, for the purpose of determining whether Dr. Savage's license will remain suspended during the course of the on-going investigation.
Copies of the Order of Emergency License Suspension and Notice of Hearing are available upon request by contacting the New Hampshire Board of Medicine, 2 Industrial Park Drive, Concord, New Hampshire; (603) 271-1205.
