Arrest Made In Connection With 2008 Death That Resulted From Assault In Tilton, New Hampshire in 1989

New Hampshire Attorney General Michael A. Delaney, New Hampshire State Police Colonel Robert Quinn, Tilton Police Chief Robert Cormier, and Bristol Police Chief Michael Lewis, announce that an arrest has been made in connection with the death of Brian Wiggin (age 18), which occurred on June 9, 2008.

Brian Wiggin had been physically assaulted in Tilton, New Hampshire in December 1989, when he was 4½ months old. Brian Wiggin suffered significant injuries at the time leaving him an immobile quadriplegic. Bruce Watson was eventually arrested and charged with Second-Degree Assault for causing Brian Wiggin's injuries. On March 1, 1991, Bruce Watson pled guilty to Second-Degree Assault in the Belknap County Superior Court, and received a 2½ to 7 year prison sentence.

Brian Wiggin eventually succumbed to the injuries inflicted upon him by Bruce Watson. After his death, an autopsy was performed by Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Thomas Andrew. Dr. Andrew determined that Brian Wiggin died as a result of injuries he sustained from being physically assaulted in 1989, when he was 4½ months old. The manner of his death has been ruled a homicide.

Bruce Watson (age 46) of Bristol, New Hampshire, was arrested today and charged with one count of Reckless Second-Degree Murder. The complaint alleges that Mr. Watson caused the death of Brian Wiggin through the application of physical force, including but not limited to, shaking and throwing Brian, in December 1989, in Tilton, New Hampshire. Mr. Watson is expected to be arraigned on this charge in the 6th Circuit District Court, Franklin Division, today August 21, 2012, at 2:30 p.m.
