Attorney General Michael A. Delaney, New Hampshire State Police Colonel Robert Quinn, Dalton Police Chief Mario Audit, and Whitefield Police Chief William Colborn announce that autopsies were conducted on the bodies of two adult males found deceased in a residence in Dalton, New Hampshire on April 12, 2012. Autopsies were conducted on Joseph Besk (age 48) and Christopher Smith (age 45). The cause of Mr. Besk's death was determined to be gunshot wounds to the chest and neck, and the manner of his death has been classified as a homicide. The cause of Mr. Smith's death was a gunshot wound to the head, and the manner of his death has been classified as a suicide.
A third male, Wayne Ainsworth (age 54), is still hospitalized with an apparent gunshot wound.
Based on the investigation conducted to date, it appears that Mr. Smith shot and killed Mr. Besk and shot and injured Mr. Ainsworth before taking his own life. The investigation is ongoing.
