Hobart was indicted by the Grafton County Grand Jury on July 30, 2010. The indictment alleges that between March 1, 2009 and February 15, 2010, Jessica Hobart, pursuant to one scheme or course of conduct, removed in excess of $1,000 belonging to the town of Groton, with the purpose to deprive the town of Groton of their money. The Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer charge is a Class A Felony, which carries a maximum penalty of 7½-15 years at the New Hampshire State Prison; a fine of $4,000; or both.
The indictment is the result of an investigation conducted by the Attorney General's Office that was initiated after the town of Groton referred this matter to the Attorney General's Office on April 1, 2010, following an audit of the town's financial records.
