Attorney General Kelly Ayotte and Manchester Police Chief David Mara report that Chief Medical Examiner Tom Andrew has completed an autopsy on the body of Edith Riley and determined that the cause of death was blunt impact injuries of the head with comminuted skull fracture, contusions and fracture lacerations of the brain. The manner of death was homicide.
Ms. Riley (DOB 4/24/73) was killed in the early morning hours on Saturday, October 11, 2008, in her apartment at 168 Valley Street in Manchester. Timothy King (DOB 1/6/87), who lived with Ms. Riley at that address, was severely beaten during the same incident. He remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
Todd Peters (DOB 8/1/73) of Weare, New Hampshire has been arrested and charged with second degree murder for the death of Edith Riley and first degree assault for the beating of Timothy King. He was arraigned in the Manchester District Court on those charges on Tuesday, October 14, 2008. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for October 28, 2008 at 8:15 a.m. at the Manchester District Court.
