The Manchester Fire Department responded to a fire at 541-547 Chestnut Street on October 24, 1978. The State Fire Marshal determined that the fire was caused by arson. Ray Blanchette, age 51, and Pauline Miller, age 53, died of smoke inhalation in the fire.
